New Year Antihistamine Detox Jui-cie

antihistamine juice

You know that perennial hot topic: juices vs. smoothies?

My new big thing this year is hedging my bets with what I’m calling a jui-cie – a juice/smoothie combo.

Those of you who follow my blog will have noticed pictures of me eating strawberries popping up here and there, as well as stories of oranges, grapefruits, all kinds of nuts and cacao – how? I’m getting ready to share it all with you – and this is a HUGE part of the recovery process for me – what I’ve been calling breakfast for the last few months: a super duper antihistamine and anti-inflammatory packed juicie.

What I’ll do is juice together all the really fibrous veggies and fruits (supposedly so I’m better able to absorb the vitamins) and then blend in handful after handful of super dark green leafy stuff – you know, the kind you know your body is gasping for.

I can actually feel the inflammation dissipate a few hours after having my daily infusion – no joke!

BIG GREENIE (low oxalate)

Juice

2 large apples

1 head broccoli

1 large cucumber

Blend

1 handful watercress

2 handfuls romaine

1 inch cube ginger

1 level teaspoon spirulina

2 handfuls arugula

You posted a juice before Christmas that had fennel, ginger, cucumber, arugula etc… in it. This inspired me to get on the smoothie train to influence my wellness journey. Since then, I’ve been blending (I only have a blender) smoothies each lunch hour. I like the added fiber I get through a more smoothie like concoction. 🙂 I find adding hemp hearts and sesame seeds keeps me fuller feeling and adding some good fat. I also noticed how much better I do when adding this into my diet. As usual Yasmina – thank you. You continue to influence me getting well in positive ways.

As always your blog is great inspiration :). My english isn’t the best so I have a question absolut your text above. Do you mean that you juice some of it and then mix it with the stuff you blend? If that is the case why not just blend all of it? Is it such a difference in how the body absorb the vitamins?
I also wonder what kind of machine you use to make the juice. There are so many alternatives …

I have started to take pure sulphur crystals mixed in water twice a day (MSM, as I have read that is what is in the cruciferous veggies you mention in your juices and smoothies and as the soils are contaminated with pesticides sulphur is very sensitive to chemicals and fluoride and we do not get enough from the veggies. I was wondering what you have heard. Apparently it softens the membrane of our cells and allows toxins to leave and nutrients to enter.

Hi Nicole, I’m so happy to hear it! And thank you for taking the time to post – it’s lovely to hear of your progress 🙂

Hi Mia, that’s so sweet of you to say thank you 🙂 Yup, I juice the very high fibre stuff together and then blend the rest. I don’t want too much fibre in one go. I also do smoothies…I use a Samson juicer but there are many great ones out there.

  6. thelowhistaminechef Avatar

Hi Jina, indeed I have heard of MSM, but my preference is always to get it in whole food or juice form, so I haven’t tried it myself. Let me know how it works out for you!

    Hi Yasmina,
I was just wondering what model of Samson juicer are you using and what model of blender?

    Mike 🙂

  8. thelowhistaminechef Avatar

Hey Mike! I’m using the latest model of Samson juicer and my brand new Vitamix that I’ve lusted after for about a decade!

Hi Mike, I can look at a food diary and offer insight, direct you to the best doctor/naturopath close to you, I can help you put together a diet that works for you, but most of all, I generally troubleshoot an entire lifestyle. It’s about more than a low histamine diet…

What a relief to find your site! Looking forward to purchasing your cookbooks and doing something that finally makes sense! After 8 years of being told I would just have to live with chronic hives, inflammation, and sinusitis, I see a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel!Certainly appreciate your willingness to pass on the knowledge you’ve accumulated for the benefit of others.

If I blend everything together and not juice anything whats the worst that can happen? Im not willing to spend a lot of money on a juicer.

I’m going to try this! Was wondering if exercise helps or hurts histamine overload?

Hi there! Found your page a few weeks back and just started blending/juicing using some of your recipes. I have multiple food allergies (33 and counting) and have seen the downward health spiral in my own life that you mention in your books and blog and am hoping to reverse some of that. I see broccoli is a bit of a staple for you in many of your smoothies but it’s one of those true food allergies for me. Is there something specific in the broccoli that inspires your devotion? And if so, is there something I can substitute that could approximate the benefits of broccoli? Thank you so much for sharing your hard earned wisdom with the wide world!

Hi! Love you blog and so glad I found it. Thank you! Do you blend all of that together or is that two different recipes for two different drinks? Thank you! Do Epsom salt baths help you? They help me.

Hi there. I was wondering what your thoughts were on the goitrogens in the raw broccoli? I have been leery of juicing raw goitrogenous veggies as I don’t want to blow out my thyroid. Also are apples and cucumber considered low histamine? I know healing is not all about low histamine foods but I was just curious about those two as there are many contradictory lists out there.
